In 2023, maritime trade grew by 3% and reached $12.4 billion. Fleet growth in the global shipping market amounted to 3% and reached 2.3 billion DWT.
The landmark events in maritime and river logistics in 2023 were events and international projects that imply integration in the Caspian Sea region, in particular the inclusion of Russian ports in the transport corridor running from the Afghan-Turkmen border through the Caspian Sea, the Caucasus and Turkey to Europe, which was opened in 2018.
Miroslav Zolotarev, Head of ACEX Group, commented on these trends: "In the current realities, the Caspian basin is becoming a key hub for trade and economic development of the region, and opens up new opportunities for international cooperation.
Also, within the framework of SPIEF 2023, the delegation of Dagestan presented a large-scale project "Caspian Coastal Cluster" - a new complex that will contribute to the development of both marine and beach tourism and the logistics infrastructure of the region."
At the moment, the cargo turnover of the Caspian ports can vary significantly depending on the season, the economic situation and other factors.
The need to develop the capacities of Russia's Caspian ports is an important state task. For example, the annual capacity of the Turkmenbashi port is 17 million tons of dry and 10 million tons of bulk cargo. While the Russian ports of the Caspian Sea do not reach 17 million tons, which indicates their investment attractiveness.
"It is important to remember that the development of ports and trade contributes to the economic growth and progress of the country and the region and creates a good foundation for the future," says Miroslav Zolotarev.
