If the requirements on the part of Turkey become tougher, then for the Russian consumer goods in transit through this country or other countries will become more expensive by the amount of customs duties and VAT payable in a third country. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by Head of ACEX Group Miroslav Zolotarev.
Recently it became known about the suspension of the transit of sanctioned goods to Russia through Turkey. At some customs terminals in Turkey, the system began to reject the processing of transit declarations for goods that were not produced in Turkey and came from countries where sanctions were imposed against the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Zolotarev explained that a certain flow of EU goods passes through Turkey, which do not pass customs clearance in Turkey, but go directly to Russia.

"It is difficult to comment on exactly which declarations were rejected, but Turkish customs always checks the codes of goods and not all goods were accepted for transit procedure before. That is, this is not something new," the expert explained.
He also added that ideally, goods should pass customs clearance in a third country and then be imported into Russia under the parallel import procedure. If this does not happen, then the parallel import procedure itself is not fully observed.
According to Zolotarev, if the requirements are tightened, then for the Russian consumer goods in transit through Turkey or other countries will simply become more expensive by the amount of customs duties and VAT payable in a third country.
"In the long term, we need to look at those countries where entry thresholds are lower and there are no import duties/VAT, for example Bahrain. Yes, the infrastructure there is worse than in Turkey, but there are other advantages," he concluded.
